World Poker Tour Comes to Gulf Coast

World Poker Tour Enterprises (WPTE) announced this week that Season VI of the World Poker Tour will include its first-ever stop on the Gulf Coast. That stop, the very first event of the new season, will be at the Beau Rivage at Biloxi, Mississippi, from Aug. 29th to Sept. 9th.

For denizens of the South, it's a rare opportunity to view big-time poker up close, with only several previous events at Tunica and an upcoming WSOP Circuit event at New Orleans otherwise within easy driving range. A handful of big-name pros have already signed up, including Scotty Nguyen, J.C. Tran, John Phan and Vanessa Rousso, though as always, a number of big pros will boycott the WPT events as well. Still, this one is expected to generate a million-dollar purse, with a first prize of $300,000 or so, depending on total entrants.

The event will also be seen on cable TV around the start of 2008, when it airs on GSN.
