When one writes press releases for a living, there's no worse a feeling than seeing a press release go out with incomplete or inaccurate information. As someone whose written many dozens of these things, I know just how often the old cookie-cutter approach to cranking the things out is used... and that includes the token quote from a requisite official or participant in the happening, whatever it is. Still, mistakes happen, and such was the case earlier this week when Ultimate Bet announced its "Ultimate Heads-Up Challenge," quite clearly a play on the success of NBC's National Heads-Up Poker Championship, itself coming soon to a TV screen near you.
The version of the UB press release which now exists in most sources is the one you can view by clicking here. The release notes the presence of the UB-sponsored 'name' players participating in the event --- Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, Mark Seif, and Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi. Except that's not how the first release read, which instead looked like this. Read the part about the players closely:
Been there, done that. But it's a funny oops, nonetheless.
